Be Responsible
The goals of the Martin Middle School Library are to:
- Uphold the policies found in the ALA’s Library Bill of Rights and the Weakley County School’s Student Handbook to guide student services.
- Provide a welcoming environment rich with diverse materials ensuring that students’ personal and academic reading needs are met.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers as closely as possible to provide supplemental materials, instructional support, and professional development.
- Continually evolve with ever changing technologies, information, student interests, and academic standards.
- Foster students’ need for creativity, inventiveness, and imagination.
Circulation
- Students may check out any 2 books at a time for up to 2 weeks.
- Items may be renewed if the item is not already on hold for another student.
- Reference materials and magazines will be the only exception and will stay housed in the library unless a teacher requests them for classroom use.
- Students should return books by placing them in the library's book return slot.
- Students and staff should immediately return any found books to the library.
Fines and Lost Books Policy
- Students will only be fined for lost or damaged library books. Students will not be fined for late library books.
- If a book is lost or damaged, the student must pay for the book so that it can be replaced. Students can resume checking out materials once their fines have been cleared.
- A student who is unable to pay for a damaged or lost book, will also have the option to work off their fines in place of payment before or after school. The time at which a student can work in the library will be agreed upon by the parent and librarian. A student that works in the library will earn $5.00 per hour which will be applied towards their fine.
- The last person who checked out a book is responsible for the book. In other words, if you let a friend borrow a book and the friend loses it, you are still responsible for the book. If you check out the same book as a friend, you are responsible for the copy you checked out, so be careful not to mix them up.
Open Checkout
- Individual students are welcome in the library during morning breakfast. Students will need to bring a library pass from their teacher. Each teacher will be provided 2 passes.
Library Media Center Lessons
- Teachers may schedule their classes to visit the library as part of a collaborative lesson. The signup schedule will be on the circulation desk in the library. Teachers should schedule the library by the Wednesday of the preceding week if they wish to have a media lesson.
